Germany Germany is a perfect example of someone I've grown to love over every single release of theirs. Literally anything in GG's catalog is applicable to nearly every interaction or life event I experience. In fact, one time I ate a small dish of cottage cheese while listening to Germany Germany's last album Reconnect and now whenever I hear that song I taste cottage cheese and peaches, and every time I imagine or imbibe in some cheese of the cottage I think of that song.
Review over. Shove this on your media pitch sheets you cocksmokers: "Germany Germany, cottage cheese and peaches bitches."
I mean, this dude's music has fucking matured alongside me over the last five or six years. While I have yet to fully mature, (and while I may never) the consistent and evident evolution of Germany Germany's compositions have taken him from some random producer I tripped into, and then out on, in 2010 to perhaps one of my favorite music creators in the history of my fascination with the intentionally created sound.
The delicate but dancey approach of Germany Germany's brand of electronic feels as specifically and identically romantic as the Drive soundtrack, but at 0 degrees celsius. Even over the last four or five albums, the subtle and steady growth of this dude has me feeling like a dad who has been able to sit from the stands cheering as Germany Germany turns into Mister Consistency.
I cheer so fucking hard for this dude.
Germany Germany's latest is Willow, and it's gorgeous. Introspective, warm, and comfortable, I think I've had this album playing since the first flake of snow hit my moist round face this winter. If you can imagine, I'm standing outside a well lit car dealership garage waiting for my car to be pulled around, I'm holding three kids booster seats and facing west as the last of the sun expires. At the 1:17 mark of the first track "Wake", it's magically all of a sudden snowing, the only visible flakes are powered by the halogen lot lights covering the expanse of the car lot, and I'm face first into a riff that only Germany Germany can swing so smoothly.
If your choice of music makes every fucking instance of seemingly mundane shit seem like you're the star of your own fucking movie, you're probably listening to Germany Germany.
For an electronic music producer, Germany Germany sure throws his fucking guitar player balls around a lot. Dude finds the comfortable spot on the couch almost instantly. Whether it's synths, guitars, vocals, or beats, you could listen to one of this guy's albums on repeat and never know the beginning from the end the shit is so fucking sweatpants comf.
I'll go out on another limb, a limb similar to a limb I went out on a few years ago, and then again a few more years back from just a few, I'm calling the latest from Germany Germany my favorite album of the fourth quarter 2015, one of my favorite albums of 2015, and perhaps one of my favorite complete albums since his last album.
Germany Germany makes music to live through, but the best part about this shit is that it's actually his music living through us and we're just lucky enough to realize how fucking amazing this asshole is.
GG, you talented sack of shit, I appreciate you.
