I've had this album forfuckingever.

I've listened to this album so much I didn't even know if it was appropriate to write about it.

Death From Above 1979's new album The Physical World is the one album from 2014 that I need to hear live. There is no question, I will go to the end of my wallet's earths to see this performed live.

The Physical World is fucking everything.

Just when I thought I was destined to have only digitally-assisted electro pop jams to look back on this year, DFA1979 gave me the only rock album of 2014 that matters.

The riffage contained within, hark, is some of the most deliciously consistent head throwing rock and mother fucking rock and fucking roll I have ever had the pleasure of being smitten with. I'm having a very difficult time finding time for other musics that could potentially create in me a powerful and sudden urge to reenact every drum strike and guitar lick on this fucking album.

Death From Above 1979 are the fucking first person shooter of music on this shit. Not only is this shit fucking amazingly powerful on the whole, bro, you're awarded the option of playing the album back and choosing your own adventure to air-drum ALL OF THE DRUMS, air guitar ALL OF THE GUITARS or microphone Fuck ALL OF THE MOUTHS. While there isn't a bad adventure to choose bro, I will admit to you that a steady switching of the rock responsibilities is probably the most efficient use of your time.

I've taken to switching instruments at different points throughout each song, as some of these fucking shits are so balls it's difficult to stay on task because of all the motherfucking hell yeah going on bro.

Seriously, there are moments of fucking balls on this album, and there are moments of pure unbridled fist-clenching perfection.

Rather than pasting my Death From Above 1979 fan fiction as it relates to each individual song on this album, I figured I'd share just the parts of the album that had me musically erect in ways that parallel how I feel for bacon.

The following points on this album are fucking air-instrument approved:

  1. 2:14 on "Right On, Frankenstein"
  2. 1:59 on "Virgins"
  3. The clap track on "Crystal Ball" but also the 1:56 mark
  4. EVERY SECOND OF THE SONG "Cheap Talk"
  5. The first chorus on "Trainwreck 1979" starting at 0:43
  6. 1:07 on "The Physical World"

If I was assshole enough to draw genre lines in my list of favorite albums this year, there would be only one rock/punk/Fuck yeah entry. Death From Above 1979's The Physical World is, again, everything.

Just go buy this bros.
