Sometimes, I have days where my anxiety gets so bad, it literally feels like I'm going to throw up lava if I don't punch someone or something. Ninety-nine percent of the time I can eventually contain the volcano. The other one percent, the times I've erupted, well, things have died at my hands. A synth I had perished, a steering wheel, much drywall, cell phones, etc. These innocent objects have suffered until I've blacked out, and then I'm waking up the next day, naked in a field, with deer blood all over my face.
One evening, while stuck in traffic with the relentless hand of life around my throat, I came across hardcore, thrash metal outfit, Get the Shot. This band feels like the inside of my chest everyday. Anger - pure and raw, putrid blackness. What they have that I do not, is the ability the release that beast with such ferocity and violence. No Peace in Hell is a runaway freight train filled with dynamite, heading to a one way destination. The tip of an atomic bomb.
No Peace in Hell begins by balling up its fists and striking you in the throat with At War. From there it doesn't relent for 11 rage-filled love songs to the utter destruction of our souls. Get the Shot is a band who has harnessed everything I love about hardcore-thrashy-punk metal. Straight, Mel Gibson toe-smashing with a hammer, PAYBACK style.
Get the Shot puts everything they ever hated into this whole album. I'm not even sure if I can understand the words half the time but it doesn't matter because the car next to me had to roll his windows up and looked as pissed as the singer sounds. The guitars are perfectly mixed with that grinding teeth on the curb tone. The drummer is bashing his brains out as if he can't stop or something will smash him to death. Best part I love about this album, is these guys never try to be anything else but the loudest mother fuckers their equipment will allow them to be. Maybe even louder and hatier...
To me, this generation is a bunch of fucking whiney pansies. Instead of just turning off their computer, they allow themselves to be cyber-bullied. No one knows how to harness their anger or fight back. Instead of learning to fight back or thicken their skin, people shoot up schools and movie theaters. People used to take that hate and depression and join a band. Humans, now are so passive aggressive because they don't know how to interact with other humans anymore. My point is, bands like this, with this quality of anger, without being fucking corny, aren't around as much anymore. Maybe because people don't know what real struggle is in this environment. I don't know, but, there's the Obliterations and Get the Shot.
This is not one of those albums you give to someone and say, listen to Rotting Idols or Lynch the Lord, as cool as they are. No, this is an album you turn on and just fucking rock out to 'til your goddamn head feels like it's going to break the fuck off. The last song Season of the Damned does allow you to regain your bearings a bit but I hit repeat as soon as it's done and make sure to destroy my ear drums all the way, full retard. No Peace in Hell takes me to a place where I remember how much fun I had at parties with Bad Brains playing in the same hour as 36 Chambers. I've reached out to these guys and they responded quickly. It seems as if Get the Shot have a great relationship with their fans. Spread the word.
