Tim (retired SYFFAL founder and fondler) forwarded Joel and I this album a couple of weeks ago from a rap artist with a strange name: Googie. I honestly don't remember the e-mail because Tim forwards me a lot of music people still send him before listening to it, and I don't want to listen to his sloppy seconds. Especially rap sloppy seconds. This year I've been tuning out recommendations and letting the music come to me bro-ganically. But apparently Tim knows these assholes, so after the second prod I popped it in.

The verdict: I love fucking Googie. Even if his name sounds like a sticky sex move you'd find on Urban Dictionary.

This album takes me back to the day when I'd spend my afternoons after school playing Street Fighter 2 on SNES in my neighbor's basement. Back then it was still acceptable to yell BOO-YAH after blasting each other with Ryu fireballs. And this is exactly what we did; yelling BOO-YAH and HADOUKEN BEEYOTCH over the Fu-Shnickens or Black Sheep that were playing in the background on the Sony with removable speakers.

And I don't think me saying this is a stretch because the mid 90's is exactly where Googie takes you on the track 'Big Mouth Arcade', except he was playing Sonic and eating pizza bagels.

....I had a soft spot for the Totinos pizza rolls.

Yet, I don't think it's 100% nostalgia that draws me to this album. Maybe 90%, but still there is no low point on the entire album. I want to listen to this album on a fucking boat in the summer with grape soda and vodka in a sweaty Tervis tumbler. 'Tis What 'Tis is fucking pedal to the taint all the way to the end. And speaking of the end, the last song 'Zig Zag Zig' may be my favorite song of the summer. Holy ballz, that shit is sticky.

GOOGIE ALL UP IN YO FACE!
