Surprises are some of the best feelings. Christmas presents. Surprise birthday parties. Pulling off a passing grade in a class where all you did was daydream and draw on your arm. The big scare during a horror movie, haunted houses, or pregnancy news!
Surprises are gernerally something that I fucking love.
Combing through our music submissions is like searching down at the city dump for an engagement ring you accidentally put in the trash, knee deep in half-eaten rotisserie chickens and Hot Cheetos wrappers.
And then, in a glint of sun, like a gift from the universe, there it is. Not the engagement ring, but something shiny and worth pocketing to check out once your efforts come up fruitless and after the weeklong shower to get out the smell of rancid salsa and used q-tips.
Slopes' little project Daydream was just that shiny object emerging from just that wasteland of music.
It's amazing for its conciseness. At just three songs, Daydream barely meets the criteria for an EP, and seems more like a maxi-single vehicle for the "Daydream" the song. It's all far-off vocals and disaffected musings, but manages to avoid being brooding. Should Slopes ever move out of their dorm rooms, somewhere down the breathy road you might compare them to Sufjan Stevens or Portugal. The Man.
In the meantime enjoy these three songs and cross your fingers (like I am), that Aansh, 20-year old college student from NYC, becomes Slopes, dreamy indie guy who plays music that gives us all something to feel.
