I was given the heads up about Younger Brother's latest album, Vaccine, by an unlikely source: the internet.
The internet said nil, yet my receptors were opens on this day and I took it into account to oblige the internet. For he is a vengeful and powerful internet.
OK, here's the situation: my parents went away for a week's vacation
So I have to haul ass into Chicago for a soundcheck 4 hours before we go on, essentially hurrying up to wait. My friend Roy crapped out on me leaving me to fend for meself, and I really hate fending. Fending is for adults. And when I prepare to play my guitar for people, I erase my title of adult.
But I had Younger Brother there with me to get me through this tough tough time in my life. Fuck Roy.
From what I've gathered from the internet about Younger Brother, they are originally an electronic outfit that brought together a full band for performance purposes, and this new album, Vaccine, is basically a culmination of their efforts. Combining electronic programmed erotica with reverberated deliciousness courtesy of some pulsating guitar work, the album is fucking perfect.
I've always liked Sean Smith's voice, from the bands Brad and Gomez. You don't know about Gomez?
You're a dick.
Sean Smith basically has this voice that no matter what band he's in, you're reaching for your belt and taking your pants to your ankles and examining yourself rectally before you even realize it.
What? Just me?
You're a dick.
What Younger Brother feels like to me is what Gomez had the potential to be, but they held a little too firmly onto the teet of staying pure, with "real instruments" and other gay things. Oddly enough, the vocals in both bands are eerily similar. So if you're a freak for Sean Smith's voice like I am, his doppelganger is in Younger Brother and it feels even more stonerish than Gomez proper.
Vaccine is a comfortable trip through an environment attempting to slow you down by any means necessary. What Younger Brother have accomplished in this new album, besides making me a fucking fiend for songs like Train (see video below), has made something so sharp feel so soft. I'm amazed that whether I'm looking to be energized or calmed, both can be accomplished by the same fucking songs.
While I go off and find the rest of their older shit, you stay put and listen to one of the most delicious and surprising finds I've had in 2011 so far.
And Younger Brother, if you or your team are reading this, I have a fucking boner right now. Stop looking at me like that you fucking pricks.
LOOK! IT MOVED!
Good show you limey Fucks.
