I don't really know much about Lucy & La Mer, only that they pale as fuk and gots mad strumz and ukes n shit. (Read that aloud just to feel cooler guys, cmon.)
But jesus triscuits on a salami platter fashioned out of recycled car parts and apple mini bubble screens, the sound is galdarn amazing. Having that much patience in your ability to make music on acoustic instruments takes years and years of experience, and when delievered this gently, no matter how quiet, it sounds huuuuuuuge.
But, I won't lie, what caught my attention about this video was the message behind the video.
Since we run a music site that only talks about the music we love, and we don't actively attend many shows because we have children and jobs and shit, and we don't gig that often (if we are still chasing the musician dreams), we don't experience or see firsthand the bullshit other people with penises inflict on womenfolk in the industry. Now, just because we aren't as physically present in any particular scene doesn't mean we condone anyone using any type of "industry power" or "I'll get you exposure" sway to get a lowly musician or human to touch their genitals.
Not only is sexual assault some serious bitch shit, we are confident enough in our masculinity and sexuality to understand that we shouldn't just shut the fuck up about its impact since it doesn't pertain to us, quite the opposite. Sexual assualt pertains to all of us motherfucker. Consent isn't implied motherfucker.
SYFFAL is committed to supporting the victims of sexual assault by standing alongside them to raise awareness. Just because it's 2016 and you have a filter on your facebook profile picture doesn't mean it's o fucking k to disrespect someone just because you are unable to attain mutual pleasure spurts with your personality alone. If your personality sucks, fix your fucking personality. It isn't the woman's problem they don't like you, it's fucking yours.
Here's to fucking standing up and intervening when you see it happening to someone. And more importantly, here's to setting the fucking example that people aren't anyone's property and that every individual on this fucking planet deserves your fucking respect, no matter what they're fucking wearing, or how they're fucking dancing goddamnit.
Be the fucking example, not a fucking sample.
And to More Than "No" and Cabaret Con-Sensual, you're beautiful and thank you for existing.
Here's some more info:
Indie artist Lucy & La Mer teamed up with More Than “No", an LA based nonprofit, to create a powerful video about sexual consent. The video features the Cabaret Con-Sensual, a body-positive burlesque troupe that raises awareness for sexual assault.
The Music Video, written and directed by lead singer Lucy LaForge, is a direct response to recent cases of sexual harassment in the music media (Dirty Projectors, Best Coast, Kesha). Lucy’s hope to is raise awareness around consent - specifically, how one’s clothing is not at fault.
