Sammy Warm Hands, self-admittedly, has the worst name in rap. I might argue that DJ Snowy Boo Boo, name-dropped by Open Mike Eagle on Dark Comedy, might give SWH a run for his Monet!
Luckily this questionable choice in monikers, translates NOT to the quality of raps. Nor visuals!
Sammy's song, "Vacant Eyes" was remixed by Seattle's rap deity Graves 33 and Sir Graves also directed the song's new psychedelic video. The video finds Sammy Warm Hands, in his trademark Wolverine meets Manic Pixie Dream Girl meets electrical socket get down, rapping his raps over the video equivalent of an Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.
For real though, It makes me happy when artists we've covered go on to get shine from all over the world, and Sammy premiered his video with the good people over at UGSMAG. And from them, there is word that Mr. Warm Hands is dropping a new remix record featuring the likes of Casual, Exile, and Sapient along with of course the aforementioned Graves33. That's like an orgy of flannel and chest hair and work boots and the smell after it rains. The new new is slated for September 25th on Crushkill Recordings and Take 92 Music.
There are conscious rappers, and then there are rappers who are conscious. Sammy Warm Hands didn't make a conscious track to satisfy a demographic. Sammy Warm Hands is a conscious dude, with startling commentary on society's pressure on our appearances, on what it means to be real, what it means to have a good time, what it means to be alive and contributing to culture, whether punk rock or hip hop.
I doubt there's much distinction in the mind of Sammy Warm Hands.
