It's the end of a 3 month period. So, for us, that means that we share our favorite albums of the quarter. And the first quarter has been a blur this year. The only thing I remember is what Trump and Kanye did. The rest was just white noise....so it was hard, but we dug deep, swiped some sweat from our brows, took a swig of Gatorade, dug a little deeper and found 9 amazing albums for you to check out.
Per usual, Del fought with us to extend the number of entries to 25 albums, none of which he actually reviewed.....he's such a piece of shit.
Anyhoo, here they are. Enjoy.
Joel's Favorite Q1 Albums
TW Walsh - Fruitless Research: This dude is the best friend he didn't know I was. His drums are dirty, his synths are shimmering, and his vocals remind me of an after school special where the two best friends feed each other tater tots and wear matching airbrushed tshirts and visit places that are described as "promenades". But we call them BROMENADES, bro. Read Our Review
Fennec - This Pace Was Once a Palace: This EP has fulfilled my dark side like no other project this year so far. It's moody, dank, intimidating, and brooding, yet somehow uplifting, introspective, and soothing. I'm completely obsessed with Fennec and I want a song named after me before I die. And two burritos for dinner. That's all. Read Our Review
Daughter - Not To Disappear: If you're as into music to stare out a moving train window in the rain and snow as I am, this is our soundtrack for winter 2016 bro! With how amazingly dainty the vocals are, it's impressive how fucking strong they are when paired with the instrumentation when you let the album toss you around like a fucking rag doll like I have. I'm Daughter's fucking BITCH this year. Read Our Review
DEL'S FAVORITE Q1 ALBUMS
3. Field Music - Commontime: When I started this album I thought I was going to be listening to the Field. I was pleasantly welcomed to a very different sound than the one I was expecting to hear. Such a welcome brilliant mistake.
2. Kanye West - The Life of Pablo: Polarizing, Egotistical, bombastic, and highly offensive at times (Trump?) but also pretty blood brilliant (Not Trump). Separate the man from the music, people.
1. School of Seven Bells - VII: From a great tragedy came an equally great album that should easily retain the title of "The best pop album of this year". What a way to go out.
tOM'S FAVORITE Q1 ALBUMS
Ray LaMontagne - Ouroboros: This is the album meant for vinyl, thus, should be bought on vinyl. I don't even have a digital copy. Read Our Review
Living Hour - Living Hour: Lush like the dewy grass in Joel's panties. Read Our Review
Tiger Waves - Tippy Beach: The title says it all. Trippy California surf music that reminds me of what the Beach Boys sounded like when the Beach Boys got a little coo coo. Read Our Review
