Tom Doz

Every morning I wake up and take a dull pencil to the dimple of my chin to ensure that it stays deep enough to utilize for everyday activities well into my old age. I call it shaping for the future. These activities include opening beer bottles, getting deep into those back massaging pressure points and storing Monopoly pieces. I also listen to music. I love music. Especially music that Employee hates.

Tom's Syffalist - January 2015

Tom Doz | January 28, 2015
I hate the dead of winter. Not only because it's fucking cold, but because there is pretty much a halt in new music releases from after Thanksgiving to about mid-January. Soooooo, below you'll find my SYFFAList for December and January. It includes a lot of...

Small Wonder - Wendy

Tom Doz | November 26, 2014
I'm not sure why artists or bands sometimes get their panties wedged up their crack when a writer/blogger/critic compares their music to another artist's. Sure, it's lazy... but most of the time it's the most accurate description I can provide. And I'll speak...

The Barr Brothers - Sleeping Operator

Tom Doz | November 25, 2014
Holy dog shit in a flaming bag have I been in a musical rut this Fall. I fucking hated it. I love to lust for an album at least once a month and if I don't get my meat I'm an asshole to be around. Sure, some decent albums have crossed my desk, but like the...

Haerts - Self Titled LP

Tom Doz | November 10, 2014
Haerts will make you want to emerge from a pink lit fog with a white fringed leather glove on a single hand - one finger pressed against your lips - saying shhhhhhhhhh. Their self-titled LP will appeal to thirty-somethings who grew up on a...

Future Monarchs - Deserters

Tom Doz | October 20, 2014
When I jump into an album I plan on reviewing I scribble down random thoughts. Half way through Deserters, the newest album from Future Monarchs my scratch pad was a mess. I'm going to take you through my initial though process, as...

One Song: Damien Rice - I Don't Want To Change You

Tom Doz | October 8, 2014
8 years. That is how long it's been since Damien Rice has released an album. And I have a feeling that I'm probably the only one at SYFFAL who is down with Damien Rice because his songs are on the verge of being overly sappy...

Perfume Genius - Too Bright

Tom Doz | September 15, 2014
Because I was so late with my review for Perfume Genius' 2nd album Put Your Back N 2 It; I've decided I'm going to be super early with my review for Too Bright. BUT this didn't come easy. In order to get an early copy, I had to promise...

STOP SLEEPING - BRONCHO

Tom Doz | August 20, 2014
BRONCHO, bro. Their name is half bro, half nacho. And that I can dig because I want to dip my saltiness in dat cheese. I'm 98% convinced that BRONCHO is that band playing at the high school dance in every 80s movie. For real...

Bahamas - Bahamas is Afie

Tom Doz | August 13, 2014
There is a fine line between relaxing and boring. Maybe this is the reason reggae came along with its funky offbeats... to keep people awake while they relaxed. And while Bahamas is not by any means reggae, it has that vibe: Bahamas...
