Tom Doz

Every morning I wake up and take a dull pencil to the dimple of my chin to ensure that it stays deep enough to utilize for everyday activities well into my old age. I call it shaping for the future. These activities include opening beer bottles, getting deep into those back massaging pressure points and storing Monopoly pieces. I also listen to music. I love music. Especially music that Employee hates.

Tom's SYFFAList - July 2015

Tom Doz | August 4, 2015
I swear that I'm trying to be consistent with my SYFFAList, but the summer's busy. I was going to scrap the project all together and then two things happened:  July (and June) have been insane for music releases. Some days I have to pinch myself because so...

Miami Horror - All Possible Futures

Tom Doz | July 28, 2015
I've never listened to a Miami Horror album all the way through. They are just one of those bands that I'd include in my 'driving to the raquetball club for my morning aerobic sesh' mix. Their shit is the perfect balance of upbeat synth and...

Music Ruined My Life - Am I Bad Because I Listen To Pop Radio?

Tom Doz | July 23, 2015
Having kids changes what you listen to because at their young age we can't instill our taste upon them. In the car they want to listen to their top 40 tunes; not the new Destroyer album I just grabbed. And as they get older and develop their own tastes for...

Palace - Chase The Light EP

Tom Doz | June 17, 2015
I remember the exact moment Palace got me. I was halfway down Soundcloud's algorithm worm-hole. It was a clear night and the stars in the big dipper pan handle were aligned with the freckles on my navel. The brisk breeze was whistlin' through...

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Multi-Love

Tom Doz | June 11, 2015
My bread and butter as a blogger, as Father John Misty hilariously described to me once, is playing the game of 'sloppy influence identification.' As an artist I'm sure he looks at the game as an insulting and lazy way for bloggers to write about music. BUT I...

Announcements: Low Cut Connie - The Tonic Room in Chicago on 5/30

Tom Doz | May 30, 2015
Because I'm getting old(er) I only committ to a concert if I'm 95% certain it's going to singe my ballhairz. AND I don't go to big venues because fuck big venues. If I wanted to watch a concert on a jumbotron I'd stay home and watch Palladia. Thus, standing...

The Tallest Man On Earth - Dark Bird Is Home

Tom Doz | May 11, 2015
I have many friends that love The Tallest Man On Earth. They even feel that they have the license to casually refer to him as TMOE. And then they'll casually drop that acronym in a sentence and assume I know...

Mikal Cronin - MCIII

Tom Doz | April 23, 2015
In my review for Mikal Cronin's previous album MCII, I may have equated his music to the modern day Dad's music. It's the shit you want to listen to while white knuckling the steering wheel of your Honda Odyessy as you rush to pick...

World Premiere: The Coasts - On Your Own

Tom Doz | March 4, 2015
The ambiguously great duo, Eric Mount and Ike Peters of The Coasts, have put out a split single with the frightening Jesse Alexander & co. of battle ave. On Your Own is a-side to battle ave.'s...

The Amazing - Picture You

Tom Doz | February 17, 2015
Just like The War On Drugs did last year with it's addicting moody haze, this is an album that's going to swoon me in stages. I know it. I JUST KNOW IT. I've completed Picture You about 5 times. At first the album was limited to just background music...
