Announcements: Leitbur - Antique Travelers

Joel Frieders | May 10, 2016
SYFFAL favorite Leitbur just dropped his new album Antique Travelers, and BECAUSE HE LOVES ME, HE LET ME STREAM THE WHOLE DAMN THANG ON LE SYFFAL! Combining the soft 80s pop of a Miami handjob and a slow motion high school sports montage into one soothing and delicious aural beverage, Leitbur's Antique Travelers is the audible version of having the windows down. Since coming into contact with Leitbur's music, I've spent about 15% more time considering purchasing pastel colored shorts, ABOVE THE KNEE THO! OH FUCK! AM I MATURING OR AM I JUST LOOKIN OUTSIDE OF MY COMFORT ZONEZ? If you have even an ounce of sensual potential (potensuals) in your adorable body, I urge you to click play, and then click away and let the day get super fucking after school special romantic at...

Open Mike Eagle and Paul White - I Went Outside Today feat. Aesop Rock

Brandon Backhaus | May 9, 2016
What’s up, everybody?  It’s been a while.  How’s life?  I’m good. And for the first time in a minute.  Been pilfering time while listening to the crickets.  I went on a twelve mile solo hike.  It felt like was recovering from a cobra bite.  Life has a funny way of teaching you the important lessons that you need, dude.  Today I came out of my apartment and didn’t even feel like a contortionist. My face flexed into a smile at times and even when I got choked up was genuine. I’ve been meticulously putting all the cards back after I felt erroneously like I could discard that. Even though I blew them down on purpose, all it did was skew things for worthless. After weeks of feeling sickened for her, turns out, I need some brick and mortar. But now I’m back and I’m feeling fine.  Spring seems ...

SYFFALIST - April - 2016

Tom Doz | May 3, 2016
Kevin Morby - Destroyer: I stopped numerically ranking my SYFFAList some time ago because is there really a difference between 4 and 6? Instead I opted for flow.  BUT I will declare that this is my fo sho number one track this month. OH JESUS is this song smooth.  Kyle Craft - Lady of the Ark: If this dude's voice was an actual thing containing matter, it'd be bricks in his scrotum and he'd be swinging them at you, knocking you back and pancaking you against a concrete wall.  Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Perfect Time: I mentioned something similar in my Magnetic Zeros album review: Them and Father John Misty just have the special ability to make somewhat raunchy content beautiful.....as evident here.  Jackson Webb - Sidewalks: Thank you again Soundcloud algorithm for finding...

One Song: Mount Mantras - No Good

Joel Frieders | May 2, 2016
This is a Zavala from Dark Time Sunshine and Terra Lopez from Sister Crayon. What the fuck.  The fact that Zavala can throw down on a beat that reminds me of the jeans I used to wear to raves in high school while Terra Lopez simultaneously makes me wish I'd heard her voice over a beat like this when I was in high school, is just fucking offensive. Who the fuck do these people think they are? The beat is fucking disgusting. The fucking vocal is disgusting. I want to fucking stab someone in the throat with a chocolate longjohn and then spend the rest of the day licking the horror off my fingers. Zavala making dance tracks is still freaking me out. Not because he shouldn't be doing such things, but because he's SO. FUCKING. GOOD. AT. IT.  Seriously, this beat murders.

One Song: Local Natives - Past Lives

Joel Frieders | April 29, 2016
Local Natives have yet to drop something I don't love almost instantly.  I fucking adore how every song is another excuse to close my eyes and tip my head back and tribally swat at the imaginary drums laid out in front of me. "Past Lives" builds on their already fluffed pillowy dreamz of rock, but with an almost hypnotic gallping rim shot that makes it almost feel fucking BEACHY bro.  How the fuck do these shitballs keep making me lose control of my extremeties? That snare has me annoying everyone in the office because ain't no fucking way I'm done slap-slapping my desk top as I roll through the ninth listen in a row. "Past Lives" is fucking Local Natives at their fucking best. DAMN.

One Song: Blueprint - Graffiti Writer

Joel Frieders | April 27, 2016
THERE'S NEW PRINT OUT!??!?! EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! There is no other voice in hip hop that gives me the giddy shits like Blueprint's. Dude's tone is unfuckwitable. Dude's succinct story telling abilities are on par with a rap Dr. Seuss. Regardless of the topic, whether social injustice or in your face message delivery, Blueprint finds a way to sound fucking cooler and cooler with every realease. "Graffiti Writer" is another example of a dude who just can't stop dropping advances in his own sound. Without a snare or an apex or a fucking climax, "Graffiti Writer" is only a minute and a half of a story, but you fucking get it. The tension, the apprehsion, the suspicion, the tasteful effect on the vocal, the addition of peripheral snickers and breaths, and that FUCKING HORN;...

One Song: Koresma - Bridges

Joel Frieders | April 25, 2016
I'm an instrumental music fiend. Every chance I get, I flip off rappers and singers alike, and hoard ALL the instruments. Fuck rappers. Fuck singers. Fuck yes.  Koresma dropping "Bridges" right when the weather is starting to turn tasty is a sign that I have every right to sit half-intoxicated in my drawls on my back porch and watch the wind whip the weeds to and fro. The cool crisp beat is tits on its own, but that fucking guitar just meandering through a cup of coffee is fucking perrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrf. I liken Koresma drops to Bonobo drops in that it doesn't necessarily have to break the mold previously hardened by the artist's last album release, it just has to make me feel comf as fuck, like the aforementioned last release. Koresma is the masseuse, and my flabby...

World Premiere: Leitbur - Solid Ground

Joel Frieders | April 19, 2016
Leitbur is the setting you turn your brain to when everything else is overwhelming. Leitbur is the second bowl of chips delivered to your table, and they're still piping hot and shimmering in grease, just waiting for you to dip them shits in some chilled motherfuckin' salsa. Leitbur is the cool side of the pillow on the wrong side of town on the better half of the spring season.  Everything about Leitbur's music is therapeutic. From the nostalgic memories of tight rolled jeans, slap bracelets, and premature ejaculationz, to the soothing synthesized synthetic pastels and neons swirling around my bucktoothed pre-teen self, there is nothing Leitbur can't be used for. From osteoporosis to lesions on the soul, a half hour of steady Leitbur can heal even the most stubborn of ailments. It's the...

One Song: Leitbur - Straight Outta Whispering Meadows

Joel Frieders | April 19, 2016
Yes, that guy throwing a mini-tantrum during a city council meeting is me. Yes, I sound like a little bitch. Yes, I'm angry about the fact that my neighborhood still doesn't have roads, and neighborhoods all around me, with even smaller numbers of completed homes built, have brand new smooth ass roads and I'm still paying taxes on everyone else's infrastructure and mine is being held up in a court battle with no end in sight. I'm completely depressed about the fact that I got into this shit to do something and I can't do ANYTHING to fix the shit besides let other people in on my frustration. So, welcome to my bullshit.  Yes, today's WORLD PREMIERE artist Leitbur sensed my frustration over the last week's meeting. And because he is a goddamn sweetheart, he took the audio of the meeting and...

One Song: Magic City Hippies - HUSH

Tom Doz | April 18, 2016
Hello, this is Tom. No. Not Joel. Yeah, I know Magic City Hippies is Joel's band, but I'm feeling this track.  AND I just need to tell you that 'HUSH' is like sex with too much lube...you are just sliding all over the place and putting elbows where they don't belong. AND Joel says: 'HUSH' feels like the aroused feeling in your stomach where you'll go to any lengths to create a sexual connection with your lover. So far, in fact, you're not even noticing you're wearing a sports bar to work, on top of your sport coat. I fucking love hungover horny shit like this, it makes me feel less perverted. And that makes me a huuuuuuge pervert. Now it's your turn. Go listen.
