Our Interview with Gerald Casale of DEVO

Tim Baker | March 23, 2011
When I got the call from the Warner Brother’s PR guy, Rick, I was beside myself. I was going to get to interview Gerald Casale, one of the co-founders of DEVO… FUCKING DEVO. They were one of the first bands I remember liking because I liked them and not because it was what my parents played around the house. I was ushered into music fandom on the back of MTV and a few of the ne'erdowells who worked on the beer truck with my dad. DEVO was one of the early bands that made a real impression on a young Tim. I didn’t necessarily understand them, shit I just liked the groove, it was original, sounded like the time, and the video for Whip It was probably one of the first times I knew something was sexual without understanding why. Little did I know that this conundrum would define the next 20+...

Interview with Chris from the band METZ

Tim Baker | March 22, 2011
A few months back our very own Del LeFevre interviewed the Canadian based band P.S. I Love You and when asked what bands they felt the world needed to know about they screamed METZ, or at least I thought they screamed because it is was written in all caps, turns out that’s just how they spell their name. Obviously any reporter worth his salt, or her pepper would hunt down METZ and find out why one of our favorite bands was so heavily attached to their dicks. After numerous failed attempts to lock down an interview with what I imagine will be their soon defunct label, we managed to contact the band directly and browbeat them into an interview. Admittedly our aggressive line of questions made them feel feelings usually reserved for teen moms, eventually they realized that being a parent was...

Interview with Intuition

Joel Frieders | March 14, 2011
If you live in Southern California, or Alaska, you have probably heard of the hairy armed rap star named Intuition, or Lee Shaner as his friends in sprite call him. If you haven't heard of him, it's probably because you're a fucking racist. Yes, yes, take a long hard look at yourself in the cock mirror you fucking fascist. It's people like you that make this country a fucking shithole. I blame the Democrats, the Republicans and cock mirror looking racists like you. *END RANT FOR NO REASON* Intuition is one of those guys I met on the internet in the early ought's (that's the cool way of saying 2000's Reggie), and while his internet persona is chill, hairy armed and witty, I never gave the dude a chance as far as being a decent rapper. Why didn't I? Well, for starters, he's white. WHAT? HE...

Interview with Ty Segall

Tim Baker | March 12, 2011
I have been sitting on this Ty Segall interview for a while because well, I am an unorganized mess and if it isn’t in my folder of things to post it doesn’t exist. I have been obsessing on Ty’s very amazing album Melted for the past week or so and it dawned on me that Ty and I had a conversation about a month ago. He wasn’t the grumpy old dock worker I had built him up to be in my head. In fact I found Ty to be an amusing and sensual man, sort of like a half naked clown. So without any further delay let’s dive into this son of a bitch. SYFFAL: Since I am either lazy or borderline illiterate I am going to assume there is no bio on you. So in an effort to help our readers get to know you can you answer the following Just who the hell do you think you are? Ty...

Our Interview with Alex Maas of the The Black Angels

Tim Baker | January 13, 2011
Finally! I got a chance to sit down with Alex Maas from The Black Angels, who if you have been paying a lick of attention to our site over the past week or so, I have been sweating the Fuck out of. Dark, psychedelic, shockingly beautiful, and often maddening their music is the perfect soundtrack to a drug fueled cross state killing spree, at least that is how I described it in our review of their stellar album Phosphene Dreams. Alex and I discussed a bevy of topics including Texas, Christians, candy filled with BBQ sauce, the dude with the fucking awesome hair on the show Ancient Aliens, and his unforgivable lack of knowledge about the greatest, and foxiest cartoon band ever - Josie and the pussycats. Here’s what transpired. SYFFAL: How do you think living in Texas has affected your music...

Bob Ducca is a poet, an author, and a semi-reputable member of the community of Castaic,CA where he keeps his home. Our Talk With Jonathan Larroquette and Seth Romatelli from Uhh Yeah Dude (UYD)

Tim Baker | December 19, 2010
I first learned of the Uhh Yeah Dude (UYD) podcast a little over a year ago via another podcast that I no longer listen to. I was intrigued with the way these fellows spoke, interacted and thought. I decided to subscribe to their podcast through iTunes and since then the Monday train ride home from work is filled with amusement, laughter, and the comfort in knowing you are not alone in a world that seems to be steadily sinking into madness and stupidity. Jonathan Larroquette and Seth Romatelli, though I never met them remind me of the friends that I love sitting at the bar and talking to for hours on end without ever getting bored, rolling my eyes at their stupidity, or wanting to pick up my phone in search of someone better to talk to. I have wanted to interview these guys for...

Our Interview With Gayngs

Joel Frieders | November 1, 2010
I'm a pretty honest guy. I downloaded the Gayngs album for one reason. The logo. A pot leaf merged with a vagina. It was my beacon. It was what I would give to the mayor in place of the bat signal if I ever took over for the winged one. It was what I have honestly considered getting tattooed upon my lower back in place of this sketch of a bowl of macaroni and cheese that my friend Reggie did on a magnadoodle. So the logo got me, and then while listening I'm sitting there wondering if I had mistakenly downloaded an 80's version of stoner pop or something that hadn't been invented yet. Do you feel that? That's the feeling you get when your bowels curtsy and ask your kidneys to dance. It's the most comfortable and peacefully sexual I have ever felt outside of that time I volunteered to get...

Our Interview with Munly J. Munly

Joel Frieders | October 20, 2010
It was foggy, the moon was full, I had just eaten a double butter cheese burger from Culvers, my son was asleep at my feet where I keep the boy, then I heard horse hooves and the sounds of painful merriment from outside yonder winder. It was Munly, and he had come for revenge. Munly. The bastard. He knew where I kept my blacksmithing tools. He knew everything. He was armed only with a pale face, an out of tune guitar and a trio of robed sidekicks all named Lurvy. Here is the discussion that transpired. Joel: I discovered your music through a random music blog. I tried numerous times to remember which blog specifically, but could not. Do you ever read the shit people say about your music on the internet? Do you ever wish you could dropkick some of these swarmy music...
