I've been pretty healthily obsessed with Welles for the last few months. Let's not mention that I get to see him in an intimate setting this Thursday at The Law Office Pub & Music Hall in Yorkville, Illinois for the Summer Solstice 2017 kickoff party.  BUT SERIOUSLY. Welles sounds like Blind Melon and David Strange crossed with a nod to the Beatles and Zeppelin, but with his own brand of insanity, and I couldn't be more fucking ready to watch this dude melt everyone else's face while I document all of the melting.  "Life Like Mine" reminds me I'm not alone in my appreciation for gas masks and over sized hands, but more importantly, it introduces the rest of my friends to an artist I am JACKED over righ meow. My life has been completely insane lately. Not that yours hasn't been, but I'm celebrating being able to actually kinda sorta see for the first time in a few weeks. I will say one thing I never thought I'd say: Cataracts at 37 is some shit bros.  The first video I've actually watched since regaining the ability to see is Childhood's "Californian Light". Even without the sense of sight, I fucking love everything about this song. From the falsetto to the velvet Bill Withers' pocket these guys crawled out of, I'm calling Childhood my favorite band of the fucking day.  Such a comfortable and accessible vibe from a band I've never heard of, but can't wait to obsess over. After my fourth time through this song I got the idea to request that Childhood team up on tour with Mondo Cozmo...

Something about a perfectly recorded guitar by itself that gets me comfortable. Gardens are like the fucking sweatpants of chill rock shits, and I'm comf as fuuuuuuuuuuck righ meow. This is the type of shit you put on when you realize you're the only person on earth awake. I love how the intensity of the music isn't lost on the pace of the track, but rather heightens it because their vocals were recorded like a fucking wall. I want this band to play my funeral.   

Open Mike Eagle makes me hard exhale out of my nose holes. Half of the exhale is "holy shit he's right, we're so fucked", the other half is embarassment. I'm embarassed by how we've arrived at whatever the fuck 2017 is.  Even the creative folks aren't creating the same because they're too busy looking over their fucking shoulders because we're all under fucking attack by the previously silent closet racist bigot fucks. I hope Open Mike Eagle knows he's appreciated as fuck, and also, that a lot of us are sorry about what people of our white skin color have been capable of over the last few thousand years. I also know we ain't seen shit yet, as it's about to get worse.

I haven't been able to write about music for fucking weeks. Ain't none of your bidness why, but holy fuck I needed something like Between The Rain to snap me out of it. I thought this was going to suck based solely on the fact that it's a live recording (strike one), recorded outside (strike two), with a shaky camera (strike three), but then dude's voice cuts through the bullshit and I'm fucking SMITTEN BRUV. Between The Rain sound like a cross between Silverchair and that band BAD4GOOD that I was obsessed with for a while in grade school because Sam from Diff'rent Strokes was in the shit. This is part glam, part grunge, but 100% what I fucking needed right now. "Mudroom" makes a motherfucker wanna drink shitty beer and watch a band fucking murder shit exactly like this. FUCKING...

Jesus H. Crackers. It's like I'm being water-boarded with tears. 

WHO IS THIS?!?! It's like I'm sitting on someone else's leather couch, in the nude, sweating my ass off, but I kind of like it. Is this supposed to make me feel so uncomfortably erotic? "Shiny People" indeed! Leaf House sounds like a slightly more menstrual Glass Animals, and I'd say that's the highest compliment I can hand them because this is funky, sexy, swanky, funny, sweaty, and fucking awesome. If I had to pick a single word to express my fandom it would be simply, balls.
